SUMMARY:Intro to No-Till Drills and Native Forages
DESCRIPTION:September Farm is teaming up with the Virginia Grassland Bird Initiative\, Alliance for the Shenandoah Valley and VSU’s Small Farm Outreach program for an exciting pasture walk and talk this spring. Farmer Jay Hafner will demonstrate the process to set-up and use a no-till seed drill to establish warm season grasses. Beginning summer 2026\, the seed drill will be available for rent to other farmers and landowners throughout the region. The event will also showcase numerous conservation best management practices in place at September Farm. This event is supported by a grant from American Farmland Trust. Rain date is 6/24. \nThis is a free event\, but registration is required.

SUMMARY:Birding Walk at Roundabout Meadows
DESCRIPTION:Join PEC for a guided birding walk through the Roundabout Meadows pastures and meadows. Possible sightings may include eastern meadowlarks\, field sparrows\, indigo buntings\, plus a variety of other grassland and shrubland species. \nThe walk will cover approximately 1 mile through rolling pastures and mowed trails\, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear and clothing for longer grass and uneven terrain. Participants should bring their own binoculars. This event is free but registration is required.

The Wood farm hosts a large colony of more than 110 pairs of martins!
